Once more, with feeling:

Dwimordene's Standard Disclaimer (from now on, envision this at the top of every story I write): I'm not JRRT, nor related to him in any way. Thus I own nothing, and I owe much, but I promise to return all of Mr. Tolkien's characters to him more or less intact (as talent allows, and with apologies for the 'less' part). I make no money and intend no harm. Thanks for not suing.

********

Stats: still female, still a grade A Aragorn-groupie (has a place in nearly every fic, it seems), although note that Denethor is (frighteningly) also a favorite, still a student.

My Philosophy of Fanfic: Basically, I write this stuff because I probably spend an unhealthy amount of time in my own head (one of the hazards of being a philosophy student is a very cerebral approach to life), fantasizing about what happens in those Moments in Between, where the author leaves room for his/her characters to have lives. I try to keep a consistent style, but for the most part, do not attempt to imitate Tolkien's, as that is counterproductive by any measure I can think of (for me).

Movie versus Books: although I love PJ's films, I write based on the books. I assume that anyone who reads my stories has already read both LOTR and The Hobbit, and in some cases, The Silmarillion. I do not use warnings where said warnings give away the plot, so if you like to be warned in advance, please exercise caution when reading my fics.

My Philosophy of Reviews: We all love reviews, and I appreciate anyone willing to express his/her informed, critical opinion about something I've written. Note the qualifications "informed" and "critical." One-liners, unless extremely pointed, generally are not useful to me as an author. I need to know what elements work in my stories, what ones do not, and most importantly in either case, why. As long as it's civil, I want your honest reaction, as that is the purpose of reviewing. If you fear to post your comments publicly or just prefer to review in private, feel free to e-mail me. I promise not to bite unless you flame me. Which you wouldn't do, because you're a civilized person, right? Right.

About Beta Reading: I've had a few people who have asked whether I would be a beta-reader for them. While I'm flattered by this, the odds are not good that I will say 'yes.' You are welcome to ask, but I probably will decline. Sorry, I just don't have time, between studying and writing my own stuff, to be a good beta-reader, and that isn't fair to the person making the request.

Taking a cue from the Philosopher At Large, here are some authors I've enjoyed, and whom you might also (we all need a reading list for the days when we should be working, right?): C.J. Cherryh (Chanur series), Roger Zelazny (Amber series), Parke Godwin, Anne McCaffrey (Dragonriders of Pern), Katherine Kurtz (Heirs of St. Camber), Ellis Peters (Brother Cadfael Mysteries), Harry Kemmelman (The Rabbi Small Mysteries), Frank Herbert (Dune), Connie Willis (To Say Nothing of the Dog), "Reading Lolita in Tehran", St. Augustine (Confessions), Sren Kierkegaard, Albert Camus, Emmanuel Levinas, Ernst Cassirer (Language and Myth).
