[ Civitas Mundi ] [ G ] [ Complete ] [ Dec. 7, 2004 ]
Summary: A quintet of drabbles held together loosely by the theme of civil strife and the view from the losing side. Such is the way of the world, that all endeavors undermine themselves in the end, and not simply for lack of good will...

Melkor, Manwë, Ornendil, Miriel, Aranarth, Eärnur, a humble cobbler, and gratuitous philosophical evocations—five hundred words by Dwimordene.

Read Altariel's response,Gloria Mundi.

[ Ides of March ] [ G ] [ Complete ] [ Mar. 23, 2003 ]
Summary: Under one page! "Ides of March" done Middle-earth style, because you know Tolkien didn't just *happen* to arrange a major upset victory for the forces of good on March 15th for no reason. Based on "Dynasty", though it doesn't quite fit my timeline in terms of character-development: Nharadh explains the significance of the Ides of March to Bergil.

[ Kin-strife for Christmas ] [ R ] [ Complete ] [ Dec. 24, 2008 ]

The road to power is not paved with good intentions. Here are all twenty-four Kin-strife drabbles for the 2008 There and Back Again Advent Calendar.

[ Kinsmen ] [ PG ] [ Complete ] [ Jun. 10, 2004 ]
Summary: From father to son, the line of Isildur has remained unbroken through many long years of toil and peril. Of the names of the Chieftains recorded, a full quarter died untimely, but passed their title on to their sons. This is a tale of the Dúnedain, and of keeping the line alive at all costs, as seen through the eyes of two mothers.

[ Midsummer's Eve ] [ PG-13 ] [ Complete ] [ Sep. 17, 2006 ]
Summary:

And on the evening of Midsummer Aragorn, Arathorn's son, and Arwen daughter of Elrond went to the fair hill, Cerin Amroth, in the midst of the land, and they walked unshod on the undying grass with elanor and niphredil about their feet. And there upon that hill they looked east to the Shadow and west to the Twilight, and they plighted their troth and were glad.—'The Tale of Aragorn and Arwen,' Appendix A, ROTK, 386.

Four drabbles for Arwen, for being quartered on choice... and desire.

[ Noms de guerre ] [ G ] [ Complete ] [ May. 27, 2010 ]
Summary: What's in a name, after all? Love and loathing, as two young Rangers discover. A humorous story, told in a drabble and a tribble.

[ Not In Our Stars ] [ R ] [ Complete ] [ Mar. 23, 2003 ]
Summary: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves."--Shakespeare, "Julius Caesar," Act I.2

Slash story. An attempt to explore the sexual mores of Rangers and the problems inherent in being in the minority in a small town. Warning: If you like the Halbarad I've written before, and don't want to think him otherwise on account of something *else* I've written, then please do not read because you won't enjoy it. Explicit (but not graphic) sex, prostitution, and a look at Halbarad's friendship with Aragorn. An alternative interpretation, stands alone and apart from the "Star and Stone" continuum.

Summary: Sometimes foresight is false. After Pelennor, the new lease on life is but the beginning. Halbarad, Aragorn, and the journey towards healing. AU.

[ River Flowing ] [ PG ] [ Complete ] [ Mar. 23, 2003 ]
Summary: Isabeau's B-day fic.

[ Semper Fidelis ] [ R ] [ Complete ] [ Jun. 15, 2004 ]
Summary: "[N]ot every action or feeling admits of the mean... We cannot do them well or not well—by committing adultery, for instance, with the right woman at the right time in the right way."--Aristotle, Nichomachean Ethics, Bk II.6, 1107a 10-15.

A sequel to "Not In Our Stars" (though you need not read this for that story to be complete) in which I try to deal with the ins and outs of temptation, love, commitment, indiscretions, and authority among Rangers and their community. Turns on the standard slash h/c scenario while attempting to undermine it. Needless to say, given that, it's very angsty. Sex is explicit.

[ She Who Weeps ] [ G ] [ Complete ] [ Jan. 25, 2009 ]
Summary: "Not all tears are evil..."

Gandalf, Return of the King, "The Grey Havens"

[ Sometime Ever After ] [ G ] [ Complete ] [ Apr. 2, 2007 ]

Summary: Even the wise must make amends.

[ The Hamster ] [ G ] [ Complete ] [ Sep. 2, 2003 ]
Summary: Poe pastische silliness on a level never seen before. In trying to write the animals of Middle-earth, some smarty pants tossed off the line "Give Denethor a hamster named Thorongil." It's been a running joke ever since, and so you may blame it for this.

Without further ado: obsession and the care and dealing with hamsters collide—welcome to Denethor's world!

[ The Making of Boys ] [ G ] [ Complete ] [ May. 11, 2004 ]
